Abstract:
This study examines the rights of working women under national and international legal instruments, focusing on the legal framework governing women’s employment and the guarantees established to promote equality and equal opportunities in recruitment, wages, promotion, and protection against discrimination. It explores the evolution of women’s participation in the workforce and the social, economic, and psychological motivations underlying their employment, as well as the implications of their professional participation for family and society. The study also addresses the major challenges facing working women, particularly gender discrimination, difficulties in balancing professional and family responsibilities, and inequalities in scientific and academic fields, including access to employment, promotion, research grants, and leadership positions. The research adopts an inductive and documentary approach to examine relevant legal texts, international conventions, and scholarly literature. It also employs a social survey methodology through a field study involving a random sample of 70 Saudi working women employed in various sectors in Riyadh. The study aims to assess the actual status of working women’s rights, examine the effectiveness of legal safeguards in protecting them, and identify the need for developing legislation and institutional policies that strengthen women’s professional participation. It emphasizes the importance of ensuring equal opportunities, eliminating workplace discrimination, and establishing a fair working environment that protects women’s rights while supporting their professional and social contributions.
