Abstract:
Objective: This study aimed to determine the extent to which Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are incorporated into the content of the second-grade Arabic language textbook (an analytical study).
Methodology: The researcher employed a descriptive approach using content analysis to examine the second-grade Arabic language textbook. The study population consisted of the textbook (covering both the first and second semesters), based on the fourth edition approved by the Palestinian Ministry of Education in 2020. The study sample encompassed the entire population, excluding the title page, indices, references/bibliography, and introduction.
Results: The analysis of the second-grade Arabic language textbook—conducted against 17 SDG-related sub-indicators—revealed varying levels of inclusion. Frequencies and percentages were calculated to assess the presence of these indicators; inclusion rates ranged from 0% to 67.1%. Most indicators showed a “weak” level of inclusion, with the exception of “Gender Equality,” which ranked first with a “very good” inclusion level (67.1%). “Quality Education” ranked second with a “moderate” inclusion level (20.3%). “Life Below Water” was the least frequent indicator found in the textbook. Furthermore, four indicators showed “zero” inclusion: “No Poverty,” “Reduced Inequalities,” “Climate Action,” and “Partnerships for the Goals.”
Recommendations: The study recommends reviewing the content of the second-grade Arabic language textbook and modifying or developing it to include topics and issues related to sustainable development in a balanced manner. Incorporating balanced dimensions by focusing on integrating environmental, economic, and social aspects into the textbook’s texts, activities, and images.
